SOLD-  1968 Porsche 912  -SOLD

One owner. Full Documentation. Original Paint. Dealer serviced. Clean and rust free. Amazing original survivor!

Up for sale is a well loved and cared for daily driver that’s lived it’s whole life in Southern California under the care of James Manson. Purchased  new on November 21, 1967, Mr. Manson traded in his 1958 Austin Healey towards this beautiful Slate Gray 912 with AM/FM Blaupunkt Stereo and Mag Wheels as the options. He drove it daily about 17 miles to work- and took it on many long road trips to follow his 2nd passion- hiking. He loved his car and always kept her clean and garaged. Mr. Manson became too ill to drive in 2017 and commissioned the Auto Appraisal Network to appraise his cars before they were put into his Trust.

After his passing last year, the family had been wanting to keep their father’s favorite car but expenses of the Trust no longer make that a possibility. As a friend of the family, I was contacted to complete a full mechanical inspection and repair as needed. Not a restoration, as she is in too good of original condition to make that decision for her next owner. This is a car you can maintain and drive as is with pride, or have the best possible starting point for a  restoration. All parts are present including the original CA Smog AIR pump which has it’s belt removed. Numbers matching all original equipment that has been meticulously maintained.

The pictures below show every detail of the body, engine bay, underside and interior. She is 52 years old and represents the cleanest survivor classic car I’ve ever seen/driven outside of a collection.  Exterior- there are paint chips on the front from normal use, and a slight impression on the passenger side front bumper – as seen in the photos and pointed out in the walk-around video. There is no body damage, dents or dings on the rest, but normal imperfections and an edge of the front hood that is showing thru to the brick-red primer from polishing and waxing over the years. The interior is clean and in extremely good shape. There are 2 small worn areas of the black leather drivers side seat, and the headliner has some fading of it’s original pure white. The engine compartment, trunk area, and undercarriage are all clean, dry and free of any cancer. The tires have a lot of life left in the tread and no cracking or checking of the sidewalls, but are not new.

The body of this 912 is clean and straight with all doors and lids opening and closing as they should. No gaps where they shouldn’t be, and the rubber and weatherstrips are all in great condition around doors and windows. In my experience, this is really how you can tell if a car was garaged and cared for.  All lights and gauges work as they should, but the radio doesn’t turn on. As I  do mechanical and rebuilding work (not electrical) this issue has not been looked into or resolved.  The documentation on this 912 is extensive. All paperwork from the sale to Mr. Manson, as well as original owners packet, and service records from various Porsche dealers over the years are there.  More recent minor services were performed by Superior Automotive and Orange Independent in Orange County. The odometer currently reads 41,368 and has only been driven lightly since the appraisal was done in June of 2017. Actual miles are unknown but looking at some of the history the odometer has rolled.

The recent work performed, which began in February this year, has all been to make sure this 912 was ready to hit the road again safely after being driven so little since 2017. The family had the 912 towed down to me in Oceanside for a full check-up before starting or driving it. This included a full inspection of all the mechanicals, changing of all fluids, regreasing all joints, checking brakes, steering, draining and flushing gas tank and lines, replacing all filters, rebuilding carburetors, performing a valve adjustment, and replacing the battery.  After work was completed, a few test drives to check driveability and performance have been taken. Steering and braking are tight and you can tell right off that she’s been well taken care of. A real joy to drive. I managed to get her to and from Cars & Coffee one morning – without getting stopped for the expired tags!  (see the video below of our drive)

The appraisal report shows a value of $45,800 as of June 2017. We all know these vehicles have appreciated considerably in the past 3 years but the family is just looking to get a fair price, and for her to go to a good loving home.

If you’re serious about purchasing this beautiful survivor, the asking price is $54,800 or best cash offer. No trades considered and no tire kickers entertained. If serious, send an email and we will get back to you to answer any questions you may have. SOLD – This 912 has found a new home. Check back for more cars in the near future!

Stay healthy!
